Excursion Alexandria museum & library tour at Alexandria

Embrace the spectacular art, culture and history of Alexandria during this memorable, half-day excursion to the Alexandria Museum and Library.

Depart the pier for the approximate 30-minute drive to the Alexandria National Museum.

National Museum

This museum exhibits over 120,000 objects. During your guided walking tour, discover artefacts found at Dahshur in 1894, including the tombs of kings and members of the royal families of the Middle Kingdom. Next, view the contents of the royal tombs of Tuthmosis III, Tuthmosis IV, Amenhotep III and Horemheb, along with the tombs of Yuya and Thuya. In addition, see artefacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun that number more than 3,500 pieces; 1,700 objects are displayed in the museum, with the remainder in storage.

Next, proceed to the Alexandria library. Upon arrival, take a splendid look into Alexandria's famous past.

Alexandria Library

This modern structure was designed to symbolise the transgression from the old to new frontiers, whilst meeting the challenges of the 21st century. The location is the site of the ancient Royal Quarter, thought to be the place where Alexander the Great's Bibliotheca Alexandrina once stood. The new library is unique, as it is the first of its kind to be designed and constructed with the assistance of the international community via the United Nations. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of the library complex, and the museums and galleries on different levels.

Following your visit, re-board your coach for the approximate 30-minute return drive to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking however it is suitable for guests with limited mobility and those who utilise a wheelchair. There is one (1) elevator available at the museum and library. A minimum number of participants per guide are required to operate this programme. The use of the museums guide is required for the inside visit and is not Silversea exclusive. Museum tour is approximately 1 hour in length followed by 30 minutes off free time in the library.
