En route, pass by the castle fortification before arriving at the remarkable Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority.
Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum
The museum, which was opened in 2005, is dedicated to documenting the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust. During your visit, you can view the victims' experience through original artefacts, survivor testimonies, and personal possessions. This unique perspective is presented in a sprawling complex of tree-studded walkways that lead to museums, exhibits, archives, monuments, sculptures, and memorials. Leaving Yad Vashem, your drive continues on to Jerusalem.
Jerusalem City Tour
Your sightseeing drive takes you by some of Israel's most notable landmarks, including the Hebrew University, home to 2005 Nobel Prize winner Professor Emeritus Robert J. Aumann, the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book, the Knesset (Israel's Parliament), and the State Supreme High Court. Following your visit, proceed for a buffet lunch at a local hotel. After lunch, begin your visit to the Old City.
Old City Walking Tour
After entering through the Zion Gate, scene of some of Jerusalem's fiercest fighting during the siege of 1948, commence your walking tour of the Old City and view some of the most sacred sites in religious history. Your stroll through the Jewish Quarter takes you along the Cardo, Jerusalem's main thoroughfare during the Roman and Byzantine eras, and the newly rebuilt Hurva Synagogue in the heart of the quarter. After a short shopping stop, descend into the Lower City and see the golden-topped Dome of the Rock. A photo opportunity is then available at the famous Western (Wailing) Wall, the holiest site in the Jewish world.
