Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Nias Island is home to a unique human culture, and there is no doubt that Nias' relative geographic isolation has protected its cultural heritage. On today's excursion see some wonderful examples of tribal art of Nias, colorful culture and unique architecture.

Depart from Teluk Dalam port and drive by small truck for approximately 30 minutes to the traditional village of Bawobataluo. Proceed to the village (up about 70 steps) to be welcomed by a vibrant mass war dance. This dance is very prestigious in the lives of the men of the village, as it symbolizes the status of the adolescent becoming an adult man.

Also witness a stone jumping demonstration, in which talented local villagers leap over six feet tall stone megaliths in a rite of passage. The higher they jump the better chance they have of acquiring a wife. However, the tradition also originated to train them for warfare and defense. Wander around the village and observe the unique Nia houses before returning back to the harbor.
