Excursion S.a.l.t. seed to bottle with a family run cava producer – winner of best cava in spain 2017 tour at Barcelona

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Your S.A.L.T. Experience begins with a panoramic drive of approx. 45 minutes by coach or van to reach El Penedès. On the way to the vineyard, you pass rolling vineyards and almond groves, with spectacular views of Montserrat, Catalonia's mythical, jagged mountain rising over 4,000 feet in elevation.

Cava Guilera

You arrive to Cava Guilera, where you are invited for a winery tour and to enjoy a show cooking of paella made in the traditional country style, accompanied by local cheeses & charcuteries, desserts and of course, cava

Cava Guilera was founded in 1927 by Isidore Guilera and is run today by 3rd and 4th generation Pere and daughter Marta Guilera. With wit, endless knowledge and deep-rooted passion for land, family and craft, their story is nothing short of inspirational. Cava Guilera is committed to producing long aged Gran Reserva cava. Aged a minimum of 36 months by law, only 2% of Spain's annual cava production qualifies as Gran Reserva - some of Cava Guilera's bottles are aged up to 13 years! From their youngest cava, with large bubbles and fresh bready notes, to longer-aged mature cava, the Guilera's believe there is a cava for every dish and every occasion. Catalan culinary culture, like most of Spain, is shared. Lunch will be an enormous country style paella prepared in the traditional way. Before, during and after the meal cavas will be paired with cheese & nuts, homemade charcuterie, paella, and finally with chocolate, cream & anis-based desserts to highlight the complexity and profile of each, elevating each course to its maximum expression.

Your Host: Marta Guilera

Marta studied Communications in Barcelona before returning to her family and native region of El Penedès, where she leads Marketing & Communication and Wine Tourism for Cava Guilera. Along with her father Pere, Marta champions the highest level of environmental respect in the production of cava. An innate communicator and next generation of the Guilera family, Marta's passion for her land is a delight to receive and an honor to support.

Following your lunch, return to your motor coach or van for the ride back to Barcelona and re-board the ship.
