In between, it was used by ancient peoples who used to fish and collect shellfish for their daily meals. Guano collection was also important since pre-Columbian times. In the times when still, this territory belonged to Peru, and during the war of Independence of Peru, a small fortress was built here. Still some remnants of the fortress can be seen. The collection of guano lasted until the time when it was joined to the continent as birds migrated. Walk around the island to appreciate how it was seen by the different peoples.
Next, drive to El Morro viewpoint. At the top, there is one of the largest Chilean flags, and a military museum, which you will visit Today. There is a large statue of Christ, names Christ of Concord, or Christ of Peace. It commemorates the peace treaty signed by Perú and Chile in 1929.
