Excursion Wheelchair accessible safari (port elizabeth) tour at Port Elizabeth
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
This half-day safari focuses on close-up elephant encounters in one of South Africa’s signature reserves.
Addo Elephant National Park, Matyholweni (South) Gate
Your safari begins at the pier, where you meet your guide and board a comfortable, air-conditioned accessible vehicle for a 45-minute transfer to Addo Elephant National Park, entering via the convenient Matyholweni (South) Gate. While your guide completes entry formalities.
Addo’s Southern Loops, Addo Main Camp
Set off on a relaxed guided self-drive through Addo’s southern loops, remaining inside your closed vehicle as you traverse tar and gravel roads. The elevated seating makes it easier to see over the dense Albany thicket where wildlife often browses. Addo is famed for being one of the densest elephant populations in Africa, so chances are good you’ll observe herds at waterholes or along the road. Keep an eye out for buffalo, zebra, kudu, warthog, and other antelope; predators such as lion and leopard are present but more elusive. Your guide will pace the route to maximize sightings while sharing insight into behavior, habitat, and the park’s conservation story. If time allows, you pause for a short stop at Addo Main Camp and, conditions permitting, a quick visit to the fenced viewing area before beginning the one-and-a-half hours return drive to the pier.
Note
Please Note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking of approximately 0.25 miles (0.4 km), limited to gate and Main Camp comfort stops and short movements to and from the vehicle. Full time wheelchair users, are kindly requested to contact shoreconcierge@silversea.com in order to provide further details and determine if the tour is suitable for them. Guests will need to manage a few steps when boarding or disembarking the vehicle. Game viewing is conducted entirely from inside a closed, road-worthy accessible vehicle, and guests must remain in the vehicle in all unfenced game areas for safety. The vehicle uses a ramp/lift and accommodates guests who remain in their wheelchairs; however, gravel surfaces at the gate and Main Camp can be uneven and may require assistance. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed and vary with season and conditions, but the itinerary concentrates on high-probability zones for elephants and other plains game. Order of stops and exact routing may be adjusted by the guide to suit conditions while maintaining the overall experience.
