Excursion Wheelchair accessible (richards bay) tour at Richards Bay
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
This full-day safari tour carries you deep into one of South Africa’s most legendary game reserves, where rolling hills, acacia-dotted plains, and river valleys host magnificent Big Five wildlife.
Your safari adventure begins at the pier, where you board a comfortable, air-conditioned accessible vehicle for a scenic two-hour journey northward into Zululand. As you leave the industrial port behind, the landscape transitions into undulating green hills, sugarcane fields, rural settlements, and pockets of natural bushveld—an authentic prelude to the wilderness ahead.
Memorial Gate of Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park
Arriving at the Memorial Gate of Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, you pause briefly for a comfort stop while your guide completes entry formalities. Soon after, you begin your immersive guided game drive, remaining safely inside your closed accessible vehicle as you travel along a combination of tar and gravel roads. The terrain varies from open savannah to dense thicket and riverine forest, creating ideal conditions for wildlife sightings. The park is world-famous for its rhino conservation legacy, making encounters with both white and black rhino especially meaningful. Elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and numerous antelope species may also be spotted, while lions, leopards, and cheetahs move more discreetly among the hills. Throughout the drive, your guide shares expert insight into animal behavior, ecosystems, and the reserve’s conservation history.
Hilltop Camp, Lunch with Panoramic Views
A short transfer inside the reserve brings you to Hilltop Camp, perched high on a forested ridge overlooking rolling valleys. Here you enjoy a traditional lunch, featuring South African dishes and a choice of beverages, all served in a relaxed setting with sweeping views over the bushveld. After lunch, rejoin your vehicle for the two-hour return drive to Richards Bay.
Note
Please Note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking of approximately 0.25 miles (0.4 km), primarily at the park entrance, Hilltop Camp, and short transitions to and from the vehicle. Full time wheelchair users, are kindly requested to contact shoreconcierge@silversea.com in order to provide further details and determine if the tour is suitable for them. Guests will need to manage a few steps when boarding or disembarking the vehicle. The game-viewing portion is entirely conducted from within a closed, road-worthy accessible vehicle. Though accessible ramps are available and storage for wheelchairs is provided, the park’s gravel surfaces and occasional uneven terrain may require assistance at certain points. Guests must remain inside the vehicle throughout the game-drive areas for safety, as the park is home to free-roaming Big Five wildlife. The sequence and wildlife sightings may vary due to environmental and operational factors. Comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are advisable for your comfort throughout the day.
