Excursion West side marvels tour at New York
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
The transformation of Manhattan’s West Side into a must-see component of any New York City sightseeing experience has progressed by leaps and bounds – and this excursion covers it perfectly.
Your explorations begin with an hour-long scenic drive to – and through – the heart of Greenwich Village, where historic cobblestone streets lined with picturesque brownstones and bohemian cafés create an atmosphere that has drawn artists, musicians, and writers for generations.Progressing uptown, we arrive at Chelsea Market – a lively indoor venue brimming with artisanal food vendors, one-of-a-kind shops, and a rich history dating back to when this was the National Biscuit Company factory where Oreo cookies were made. Take some free time here to explore and graze the delicious food and beverage options on offer.
Next, adjust your sights up a level as we take a leisurely 45-minute walk along the elevated urban oasis known as the High Line. This transformed railway track is now a beloved aerial park offering stunning city views and an enchanting landscape of architecture, plants, art installations, and serene relaxation spaces where locals and visitors alike can escape the city's constant bustle.
Where the High Line ends, the gleaming new Hudson Yards development begins, spanning over the old West Side Rail Yard. Perched 1,100 feet up atop one of its tallest glass towers is “Edge” – the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. Stepping out onto its triangular, cantilevered glass floor is an incomparably exhilarating experience – offering panoramic views of the city and the Hudson that defy description, although “jaw-dropping” comes close. You’ll have a chance to come back down to earth during the half-hour drive back to the pier.
