Excursion South gambia 4 x 4 monster truck safari tour at Banjul

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Venture off the beaten track on this full day (8 hours) 4x4 monster truck safari and explore a different side of Southern Gambia.

Embark from the pier where your driver awaits. Board your 4x4 truck and head to Sukuta Village. Make a photo stop at the local fish and vegetable market and capture the authentic flavor of Africa. Continue to Yuna Village to visit Uncle John's palm wine tappers. Observe a demonstration as locals tap the wine palms that are the source of the unique and strong Gambian beverage "zum zum." If left out in the sun for around 24 hours, the drink's alcohol percentage can go up to as high as 38 percent. Brace yourself for a tasting of this "fire water" before continuing to your next locale.

Climb back into your monster truck for the 45-minute drive to Sanyang, the highlight of this excursion. At the local school learn about the foundational roots of education in Gambia. Then drive to the aptly named Paradise Beach where lunch is served under Gambian tour huts. After enjoying traditional Gambian fare, relax and soak up the sunshine. Come prepared to take a quick dip in the ocean if wish.

Feeling refreshed, you're off for a 30-minute drive to Tanji. Peruse the Tanje Village Museum, which showcases the traditional culture of Gambia. Discover more about the country, its different tribes, and the wildlife found in the area. Engage with local artisans and visit their workshops within the museum to observe their artistic processes.

Take the short trip to your final stop, the vibrant Tanje Fishing Village surrounded by impressive natural scenery. Observe the locals as they gather their day's catch or stroll through the small marketplace and browse the local goods. Then hop back into your 4x4 for the 30-minute return trip to the pier.
