Excursion Scenic northern pennines tour at Newcastle upon Tyne

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Enjoy a scenic tour of one of England's most beautiful places. The North Pennines has been designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is a UNESCO Global Park, highlighting its globally important Earth heritage.

Travel inland to the northernmost part of the Pennine Range to experience stunning landscapes of sweeping moorland, cascading waterfalls, colourful hay meadows, and spectacular wildlife. During the approximately 90 minutes' drive, see rolling farmland with fields divided by skilfully stacked dry stone walls and picturesque villages, home to vibrant communities that reside in this idyllic location.

Visit the small Pennine town of Stanhope on the River Wear and take the opportunity to visit the Durham Dales Craft Centre. Here you will find a wonderful collection of art and craft and possibly meet the artisans. Established in 1990, all of the crafts here are made by local people and the centre is run by its members. During your visit you will be served local refreshments of hot drinks and homemade cakes.

Continue your 45 minutes scenic journey to the historic Market Town of Hexham, raided by Vikings in 876 and later in 1296 by Scottish invaders under the command of William Wallace. In Market Square you'll find Hexham Abbey. The Abbey, one of the most recognisable landmarks in Northumberland and one of the North East's most important Christian heritage sites, was founded by Saint Wilfrid in 674 and has withstood many invasions over the course of time. Enjoy approximately 30 minutes of free time to explore Market Square and maybe visit the Abbey and take in the peaceful atmosphere, see ancient architectural treasures and beautiful stained glass.

Re -join your coach for the approximately 1 hour return journey to Port of Tyne.
