Excursion Regan vest, the secret cold war bunker tour at Aalborg

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

REAGAN Vest was designed to be the refuge for the government, officials, and even the monarch in case of a nuclear attack. The bunker was the ultimate line of defence, where the fate of a nation and its people would be determined. In 2023, the doors are finally opened to the public, giving you a rare opportunity to step into a perfectly preserved piece of Danish history.

As you descend 60 meters underground, the atmosphere changes, and you're transported back to the Cold War. With your guide, you'll explore the various rooms in the bunker, from the government's situation room to the living quarters and the canteen. You'll learn about the daily life inside the shelter, how it was run, and how it would have served as the last line of defence in a time of crisis.

After the guided tour, take the opportunity to explore the superintendent's house, furnished like a home in 1980. On screens around the house, you can hear from the family members themselves about what it was like to live during the Cold War and hide a massive bunker in their backyard. There are also special exhibitions about what the Cold War was all about – an important piece of knowledge for younger and future generations.
