Excursion Paranaguá's nature by canoe (extensive) tour at Paranagua

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the living waterways of Paranaguá Bay on an immersive canoe expedition through one of Brazil’s most intact coastal ecosystems. Considered the birthplace of the state of Paraná, Paranaguá has preserved a strong caiçara cultural identity, shaped by the tides, the Atlantic Forest, and a way of life deeply connected to the sea.

Paddling begins in the historic center of Paranaguá, following the calm waters of the Itiberê River before circling Valadares Island and reaching Cotinga Island, often regarded as the symbolic starting point of Paraná’s history. From here, continue along quiet channels toward areas influenced by traditional and Indigenous communities, where ancestral knowledge, fishing practices, and environmental stewardship remain part of daily life.

Throughout the journey, move through a mosaic of mangrove forests, estuaries, river mouths, sandbanks, and Atlantic rainforest, all part of the Greater Atlantic Forest Reserve. This exceptionally rich environment is home to a stable population of resident dolphins, hundreds of bird species, and some of the most productive mangrove systems in South America.

The route unfolds according to natural conditions, allowing the day’s tides, wind, and group rhythm to guide the return path. This approach ensures both safety and a deeper connection to the dynamic nature of the bay. This is a demanding, rewarding expedition designed for guests seeking an authentic, physical, and nature-centered encounter with Brazil’s coastal heritage.

Note

Please note: This is a very physically demanding experience covering approximately 8.7 miles (14 km) by canoe, with an estimated active paddling time of 5 to 6 hours. Guests must be very fit, able to paddle independently, and feel fully comfortable participating in an extended water-based activity. A very simple boxed lunch is provided. Sun protection is mandatory, including a hat, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing. This experience has very limited capacity and early booking is strongly recommended. The route may vary depending on tidal conditions, weather, and group dynamics.
