Discover two of Yamaguchi Prefecture’s most remarkable natural wonders as you explore the dramatic Akiyoshidai Limestone Plateau and the spectacular Akiyoshido Cave beneath it.

Begin with a scenic drive to the Akiyoshidai Limestone Plateau, located within the Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park. Spanning Japan’s largest karst landscape, this vast plateau is dotted with countless dolines, sinkholes, and exposed limestone formations shaped over hundreds of thousands of years by rainfall and erosion. The open grasslands and striking geological features create a unique and expansive panorama unlike anywhere else in Japan.

Continue to the entrance of Akiyoshido, one of the country’s largest and most impressive limestone caves. Formed over approximately three million years, the cave stretches for nearly 10 km, with about 1 km open for exploration. Walk through immense caverns and along illuminated walkways as you admire an extraordinary variety of stalactites, stalagmites, terraces, and other natural formations that create a mysterious and mesmerizing underground world.

Following your visit, enjoy a relaxing drive back to the pier, enriched by an immersive encounter with two extraordinary geological treasures.
