Excursion Da nang discovery tour at Da Nang
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the highlights of Da Nang, a coastal town situated on the Han River and surrounded by beautiful bays, long stretches of pristine beaches and towering mountains. The city has a colorful history reflected in its many cultural attractions and colonial architecture, remnants from the days when the French and Spanish occupied the area during the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, Da Nang sports a scenic river embankment, tree-lined boulevards with sidewalk cafes and old colonial villas.
Your first visit is to Linh Ung pagoda on Son Tra Peninsula, where the tallest Buddha statue can be found, the renowned Lady Buddha. Da Nang people believe she is the protector of the region to stay away from yearly storms and other disasters. Continue to the Cham Museum, which holds the most extensive collection of Cham art in the world, dating back to the 7th through 13th century. Renowned lecturer Tran Quoc Cong, an expert in Cham culture meets you at the museum to give you an introduction into Cham history.
Following the guided tour of the museum, enjoy a cyclo (bicycle taxi) ride around some corners of the city, with a stop at the lively Han Market along the main streets of Danang. After strolling through the market with its eclectic variety of fresh foods, handicrafts and clothing, re-board your coach and drive outside the city limits to Marble Mountain for a visit.
The mountain is made up of five hills, each representing one of the five elements of the universe: water, wood, fire, metal and earth. Both the Vietnamese and the Cham used these mountains to build their shrines, making Marble Mountain a picturesque spot with numerous grottoes, caves and pagodas.
Please note: This tour requires walking on uneven ground and also includes a significant number of steps, and is therefore not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilize a wheelchair. Those who do not care to climb Marble Mountains can rest on the tour bus. Guests are asked to wear appropriate attire to visit the sacred sites; shorts and short skirts are not permitted, and women are requested to keep shoulders and knees covered. Shoes and hats are required to be removed prior to entering sacred areas. It is recommended that guests bring along sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and flat, comfortable shoes.
