Excursion Crathes castle & gardens tour at Aberdeen
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Drive through leafy Royal Deeside to Crathes Castle to visit this stunning castle and its gardens. This is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved castles in Scotland with its fairy-tale turrets and fantastic gargoyles. It was home to the Burnett family of Leys for almost four centuries.
Wander through the walled garden and enjoy the great yew hedges, planted as early as 1702. Explore this stunning 16th-century tower house, with a complex maze of turrets, towers, oak panels and painted ceilings. Don't miss the Horn of Leys, given to the Burnett family in the 14th century by Robert the Bruce.
Beside the castle is the walled garden which is almost as famous as the castle itself and is home to beautiful borders, ancient yew hedges, a rose garden, a fountain and a glass house. Spot a rich variety of wildlife along the waymarked trails, including roe deer, red squirrels, woodpeckers, buzzards and herons.
