Excursion Ancient hoi an on foot tour at Da Nang
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
The best way to visit Hoi An is on foot, and no walking tour in Hoi An would be complete without a visit to the famous Japanese Bridge, or Lai Vien Kieu as it is known to the locals. Renovated several times since it was built in the early year 1593, the Japanese bridge is guarded by a symbol of a dog and a monkey. Your guide can share the many stories that exist about why a dog and a monkey were chosen as the guardians of the bridge.
Take a walking tour to Hoi An's historic town houses known as Tan Ky Ancient House. See three different types of architectural style in these houses: Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese.
Stop next at Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, one of the grandest of all assembly halls in the country. This building was constructed in 1697 by merchants said to be from the Fukien Province.
Learn how ceramics made Hoi An a commercial hub centuries ago when you visit the Ceramic Museum and meet Mr. Nguyen Quoc, conservation expert on Hoi Anh, who is well-versed in the preservation of the historic structures of Hoi An ancient town. Take your time looking around as there is much to see in this great example of a merchant meeting place.
On the way back to Danang stop for photos at My Khe beach, best known as the beach used by US soldiers as an R&R camp during the Vietnam War.
Please note: This tour requires approximately 2km of walking and may not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilize a wheelchair. Those who wish to do less walking may return early to the coach to rest. Driving time to and from Hoi An is approximately one hour each way. Guests can dress casually. It is recommended that guests bring along sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and flat, comfortable shoes. Bring local currency for any purchases; US dollars and credit cards are accepted in many stores.
