Excursion Aarhus & around – a journey through time! tour at Aarhus

Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark. The city drive take you pass many of the major sights, such as the Cathedral, Aros Museum of Modern art and the Royal Summer Residence Marselisborg. Continue to “Den Gamle By” – an open air museum with more than 75 historical houses from all over Denmark, where your guide will lead you on a journey through time, down the cobbled streets, vising houses and shops, where staff in period costumes, brings history alive.

Back on the coach it is time to leave the city for a drive through the scenic countryside west of Aarhus, including what is known as the Lake District, dotted by lakes and hilly landscape, which created breathtaking views.

Arriving at the historical Vrads station – today a restaurant, it is time for a traditional Danish lunch, in the charming old waiting room, which has retained its old historical look.

From here, you continue your journey by an original steam locomotive pulling original carts on part of the rail line that was once described as ”the most beautiful train ride in all of Denmark”.

Now it is time for a stop at “The Silkeborg Museum”. The museum is home to the “Tollund Man” - a remarkably well preserved 2300-year-old corpse found in a nearby peat bog. Some anthropologists believe Tollund Man was strangled as a sacrifice to the Gods; other anthropologists suspect he was killed as punishment for some crime.

We will make an inside visit to museum, before continuing to the “Sky Mountain” – a scenic viewpoint along the lakes and river. Explore its historic hotel and grounds and walk to the summit of a nearby overlook for sweeping vistas of Denmark's Lake Country.

Now it is time to lean back, driving along the lakes through forest and scenic nature back to Aarhus.
