Lifou, Easo, Village and Church, Paramount Chief's Hut
Learn about the history and way of life of the people of Drehu island, more commonly known as Lifou. Drive through the quaint Easo tribe, your home port for the day. The most dominant land mark is the 20 metre high, St Xavier Church. Built in 1860 and renovated in 1898, it is one of the first Churches to be built on the island. Your destination is the neighbouring Xepenehe tribe, which in days gone by, was the capital and commercial port of Lifou. Stop by "the bridge" at the old port, a great spot for some scenic photos. Move on to see the "chief's hut" where your guide will share some stories and cultural insights.

Next, some free time is made available to explore the village, observe the local lifestyle, learn how to prepare a traditional dish, 'bougna', and photograph the lovely flora, distinctive architecture and island panorama. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board the coach and commence the short drive to the pier. Upon arrival, locally-made handicrafts and souvenirs can be purchased at the tour dispatch location before returning to the ship.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven, bumpy and natural surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Walking in Hnathhalo Village is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Please respect the local sensitivities, and dress appropriately. Swimwear, revealing clothing, etc. is prohibited. As a courtesy, please ask for permission before taking photographs of Melanesian people. Guests must remove their shoes and hats before entering the Chief's Hut. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, biodegradable sunscreen and bottled water from the ship. Proper attire is required to enter the church; shorts and bare shoulders are not permitted. Coaches, guides, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions. The air-cooled coaches and vans are not fitted with microphones; however, your guide provides narration. The tour sequence may vary. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
