Excursion The dying town of civita di bagnoregio & wine tasting tour at Civitavecchia
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Journey into northern Lazio to the dramatic hilltop hamlet of Civita di Bagnoregio
Civita di Bagnoregio, Civita’s Medieval Streets
Depart from the pier and travel inland by deluxe motorcoach on a 90-minute drive through the countryside toward Civita di Bagnoregio. On arrival at the designated coach park, board a short dedicated shuttle to the foot of the pedestrian bridge.
From here, begin the approach to Civita on foot. The uphill bridge leads directly to the town gate, revealing spectacular views over the surrounding badlands and valleys. Over approximately 2 hours, enjoy a guided walking tour through Civita’s medieval streets—stone houses, tiny piazzas, and quiet belvederes that reflect centuries of history. Afterwards, you will have free time (about 1 hour 15 minutes) to enjoy independent lunch at a trattoria of your choice, browse artisan shops, or take additional photos. When ready, walk back across the bridge to the shuttle pick-up point and return to the parking area.
Local Winery
Reboard the motorcoach for a brief 30-minute transfer to a local winery. Settle in for about 1 hour 15 minutes as the staff leads a wine tasting accompanied by local products—an ideal way to sample the area’s flavors in a relaxed countryside setting. Conclude with a 75-minute drive back to the pier.
Note
Please Note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking of approximately 1.86 miles (3.0 km) over cobblestones, uneven surfaces, inclines, and an uphill pedestrian bridge, with a few steps in various locations. It is not suitable for wheelchair users or guests with significant mobility limitations; guests must be comfortable walking for extended periods and negotiating the bridge approach both ways. The coach provides air-conditioning, PA system, and bottled water; there is no onboard toilet. A short shuttle connects the coach park and the base of the bridge in both directions. Lunch is not included; free time in Civita is provided for independent lunch at guests’ own expense. The wine tasting includes regional wines and local products; guests with dietary restrictions should plan accordingly. Comfortable non-slip walking shoes, a hat, and sun protection are strongly recommended. Driving times are approximate—about 1 hour 30 minutes each way—and may vary with traffic or local conditions; the order of visits may be adjusted while preserving the overall content.
