Excursion Statue of liberty & ellis island tour at New York

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Cruise along the Hudson River to visit the Statue of Liberty, the majestic icon that has stood as a beacon to freedom in New York Harbor since 1886. Then explore a museum showcasing the stories of the millions whose first stop in America was here in the Ellis Island immigration center.

Your own journey today begins with a 45-minute coach transfer to the ferry dock at Battery Park; soon, you’ll be cruising into New York Harbor, treated to stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and New Jersey. Disembarking at Liberty Island, spend the next 75 minutes or so walking around the base of this colossal landmark as your guide sheds light on Lady Liberty’s colorful history and 1885 voyage from France to America. Time permitting, you can also visit the gift shop and explore more exterior exhibits before reboarding for a 15-minute hop across to Ellis Island.

The primary immigration processing station for the U.S. from 1892 until WWII, Ellis Island’s building complex today houses the National Immigration Museum, an exceptional venue detailing all aspects of immigration and its effects on a growing and industrializing nation. The island’s history is deeply intertwined with the character and culture of New York, the city where these arrivals stepped ashore and into their new lives. Over 12 million were processed in these halls; today, over 40 percent of Americans can trace some part of their lineage back to Ellis Island – and many use the Family History Center here to research their ancestors and the vessels they arrived on.

During your two hours on the island, you’ll have ample time to explore the museum, souvenir shops, and café independently before the ferry ride back to Battery Park – and an informative narrated coach drive back past numerous NYC landmarks en route to the ship.
