Excursion Southern highlights & rum tasting tour at Bridgetown

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

The countryside of Barbados’ South Coast is, in a word, picturesque. Traversing the rolling hills and fertile fields, you'll see a region of the island rich in agricultural beauty and rural charm. Small villages, sugarcane fields, and traditional chattel houses (small workers’ homes originally designed to be portable) create a landscape brimming with appeal.

Escape into nature
Just a half-hour by coach from busy Bridgetown port, Paradise Nature Park affords a serene escape – a lush sanctuary alive with tropical gardens, endemic and exotic wildlife, and tranquil walking paths. For the next 45 minutes, feel free to reconnect with unspoiled Nature.

Spiritual heritage & delicious spirits
Next up on this well-rounded highlights itinerary is an easterly drive and visit to St. Mark's Church, a historic and charming country parish church. With its quaint architecture and calm surroundings, it epitomizes the island's colonial past and down-to-earth spiritual heritage. In contrast, your next stop will be rather less pious: Foursquare Rum Distillery, steeped in a rich history of its own. Under the tutelage of an expert, get the inside story on rum-making – from fermentation to distillation to aging – and discover the subtle flavours and aromas of Foursquare’s fine rums during a guided tasting session.

The return trip to Bridgetown reveals yet more picturesque Barbadian scenery. This island seems to have an endless supply!
