Discover Siglufjo¨rður and its by surrounds from a unique perspective during this panoramic sightseeing cruise via traditional O¨rkin boat.

Siglufjörður, Scenic Cruise, Troll Peninsula

Depart the pier for the short walk to your awaiting vessel, a traditional O¨rkin boat made of oak. Upon arrival, meet the captain, receive your safety and tour instructions, then enjoy a gentle, approximately 1.5-hour cruise highlighting the historical areas of Siglufjörður and its surrounds. On the northernmost shores of the Troll Peninsula, learn how the inhabitants have had to deal with unrelenting natural forces for centuries, and how the history of farming is a story of resilience, stubbornness, and fate. Many of the country's leading writers have taken material from the events that have taken place here, most recently Hallgrímur Helgason in his Segulfjörður opus, and Einar Kárason in his account of the plane crash in Héðinsfjörður, Þung Ský.

Historical Sites, Siglunes Settlement, Fjords, Héðinsfjörður Fjord

Pass by historical sites within Siglufjörður, then head out towards Þormóðar Ramma's settlement at Siglunes. Sail around the fjord, marvel at the landscape and birdlife, and learn about the area’s human habitation and natural history. Weather- and waves-permitting, venture towards Héðinsfjörður, the northernmost fjord in the Troll Peninsula area. Listen to fascinating stories of events that took place in this secluded fjord, and the people who challenged the elements here for survival.

Refreshments, Slide Fishing, Whale- & Dolphin-Spotting

During your sailing excursion, hot beverages are served, and you are invited to try your hand at slide-fishing. In addition, look for the marine mammals that make their home along the country’s shores. Included are minke, killer, sperm, and sei whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises, enormous humpback whales, and, occasionally, an enormous blue whale, the world’s largest mammal. Your tour concludes back at the O¨rkin boat dock. Upon arrival, disembark your vessel and commence the short walk back to the pier.
