Excursion Seal bay penguin safari tour at Port Stanley
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the diverse penguin and wildlife species of the Falkland Islands during panoramic, full-day, off-road excursion with lunch.
Port Stanley, Paved and Off-Road Driving, Seal Bay
Depart the pier with your driver/guide aboard a 4X4 vehicle for the scenic drive to Port Louis, and a visit to the Port Louis Farm. After driving on paved roads for approximately one hour, continue off-road for a unique, 1.5-hour, approximately 12-mile (about 19-kilometre) experience that is not to be missed. During your drive, you are accompanied by one, or more, of the Gilding Family, who have owned Port Louis for 22 years. The number of guests visiting Seal Bay is strictly limited by the family to 24 per day and Port Louis is open just five months out of the year, remaining one of the most exclusive tours within the Falkland Islands.
Rockhopper Penguin Colony, Macaroni Penguins, Penguin and Group Photos, Swan Pond
Your first off-road stop is at the site of the rockhopper penguin colony; macaroni penguins can also be found here. Approximately one hour is made available to take photos and marvel at these normally elusive birds, and a comfort stop is available within walking distance of the site. During your visit, a group photo is taken with your fellow guests and driver/guide as a memento of this wonderful experience to take home with you. Afterward, re-board your coach and drive to the nearby Swan Pond. Upon arrival, experience driving through this expansive pond; another adventure with splendid vistas and photo opportunities.
White-Sand Beach, Lunch, Diverse Penguin Species, Sea Lions, Endemic Seabirds, Ocean
Next, your drive continues onto a beautiful, white-sand beach, where tables are set up for your lunch. On the beach, gentoo and Magellanic penguins can be seen, along with the occasional king penguin and sea lion, plus other native birds such as oyster catchers, grebes, logger ducks, grey ducks, kelp geese and upland geese. Enjoy your packed lunch, some homemade soup, and hot tea or coffee whilst enjoying the wonderful views of the penguins, sea lions, seabirds, private beach, Atlantic Ocean, and northern Falklands.
Gentoo Penguin Colony, King Penguins, Stanley City Tour
Your next stop is at a gentoo penguin colony, where you view the gentoo penguins and maybe even spot king penguins, too. This site represents a great final photo opportunity, and rounds out your wildlife-packed day in grand style. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to Stanley. Upon arrival and time-permitting, take a short orientation tour of Stanley before arriving back at the pier.
