Excursion Pitmedden gardens & afternoon tea at meldrum house tour at Aberdeen

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Journey north of Aberdeen today to Pitmedden Garden.  This garden was originally laid out in 1675 and then re-created in the 1950s.  The garden has over five miles of box hedging arranged in intricate patterns to form six parterres.  Each parterre is filled with some 40,000 plants that burst into colour during the summer months.  The spectacular herbaceous borders are sure to inspire keen gardeners and the fruit trees, fountains, topiary and sundials add interest to these beautiful gardens.

The property is also home to The Museum of Farming Life where you can visit an old farmhouse and bothy and see an extensive collection of domestic and agricultural artefacts of a bygone era.

A gardener will welcome you on arrival and give a short introduction talk before exploration at leisure.

Then, take a short drive to the beautiful Meldrum House Country hotel, which has a rich and vast history, dating back 800 years. Here, guests can enjoy their prosecco afternoon tea in luxury outdoor dining dome with stunning 360-degree views of the manor house, estate and golf course. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to meet the estate’s native herd of Highland Cattle.

Rejoin your coach for return to the ship.
