Enjoy a relaxing walk with a local nature guide on Mt. Daisen, followed by a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.
Depart from the pier and begin a scenic 50-minute drive along the Yumigahama Peninsula. Take in views of the Japan Sea, traditional villages, rice fields, and the gradually rising silhouette of Mt. Daisen, one of the most iconic peaks in the Chugoku region.
Mt. Daisen
Upon reaching the mountain’s foothills, meet your local nature guide and begin a 2.5-hour nature walk through the vast, ancient beech forest for which Mt. Daisen is renowned. This protected woodland features towering beech trees, rich vegetation, birdsong, moss-covered earth, and shifting light patterns beneath the canopy. Your guide will explain the mountain’s ecology, unique plant life, and its cultural significance.
The trail covers approximately 5 km, with gravel and cobblestone paths, uneven natural surfaces, gentle inclines, and about 100 steps. In one section, you will step across a narrow stream, adding a light sense of adventure to the walk. The fresh mountain air and peaceful atmosphere offer a true escape into nature.
Daisen Shrine
During the walk, you will also pass by Daisen Shrine, a sacred site symbolizing the mountain’s spiritual importance. Your guide may share stories about the region’s beliefs, rituals, and the deep cultural ties between local communities and the mountain.
Afterward, enjoy a short drive to a local restaurant for a 75-minute lunch, featuring a Western-style course menu with two included drinks (beer, wine, sake, or soft drinks). Once your meal concludes, relax on the return 60-minutes’ drive to the pier.
