Komsa Mountain Hiking Trek
Just a brief drive away you will begin your trek up the most popular local hiking trail, designated as a mountain, but is simply a ‘big hill’. From the base of the mountain, it is a short hike with a fairly continuous climb to reach the top. Along the way you will make several photo stops and the guide will share stories of how the Komsa culture, a Mesolithic culture of hunger-gatherers that existed from around 10,000 BC in Northern Norway, was named after the Komsa Mountain, where the remains of the culture were first discovered. Once on top you will be rewarded with wonderful views in all directions. You will see downtown Alta, Halddetoppen where the world’s first Northern Lights observatory was built, the fjord, valley, world-famous salmon river and the islands of Seiland & Stjernøya.
