The Pugu Forest Reserve is a forest reserve in Pwani Region, Tanzania an approximate 1 hour drive from the Dare es salaam Port.
Pugu Nature Reserve and Guided Hike
The forest is located in the Pugu Hills area, near Dar es Salaam, adjacent to the Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve. It is estimated to be home to 414 species of plants of which 31 are endemic species mpugupugu (Milletia Puguensis) being one them and that gave birth to the formerly known Mogo Forest, Pugu Hills. You may see butterflies, birds, plants and former kaolinite mines which are the home to Bat colonies. The hills are the source of the Msimbazi river with 21.7km considered to be one of the oldest forests in the world.
Depart from the Port and drive to the Kimani point and onwards to Pugu Hills Nature reserve main gate where you will leave your vehicles behind and start walking up and down through the forest trails whilst enjoying flora and fauna and stunning environments of the Pugu Nature Hill reserve. When you arrive at the Bamboo trail your guide will give you a short briefing about the history of the reserve and its content.
Thereafter return back to Bwawani point and onwards to the main gate where you will re - board your coaches and start driving back to the port on the return one hour 15 minute drive.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking and hiking of approximately 1.90 miles (3 kilometers) on uneven surfaces and extended period of standing. Guests should be physically fit to participate in this tour. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight comfortable clothing, and flat, closed-toe walking shoes are recommended. Guests must be aware that equipment and guides may not be up to Western standards but are the best available in this particular area; air conditioning in tour vehicles cannot be guaranteed. Guests are recommended to please ensure to first ask locals if they wish to take their photo. No photography of police/army or White House is allowed. The climate is extremely hot & humid, therefore a risk of dehydration - guests should drink plenty of water. Credit Cards may not be accepted therefore guests should carry USD or local currency for any purchase.
