Excursion Gambian home cooking tour at Banjul
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience a full day (7 hours) of Gambian culture through the ultimate social connector of food. Spend the day in true Gambian style and learn how to make a typical home-cooked meal. Here "slow food" isn't a movement; it is a traditional way of life.
Embark from the pier and board your coach for the 45-minute drive to the town of Brusubi. Arrive at Yabouy Home Cooking (Yabouy means "mother") to begin your cultural immersion. Meet founder Ida Cham and be outfitted in traditional Gambian clothing - skirts, blouses and headdresses for women and colorful shirts for men. Next, head to the Tanji Fishing Market where the locals shop and select the fresh ingredients to be used for today's culinary creation. Back at Ida's home roll up your sleeves and pay attention as she shows how to prepare and cook a traditional Gambian meal. Talk and play local games as the multiplicity of flavors meld into a healthful and delicious meal to be served in the courtyard at Yabouy Home Cooking. Complete your experience with traditional tea and fresh fruit as stories are shared and cultural ideas exchanged.
Satiated and enriched, return to you coach for the drive back to the pier.
