Visby City Walls
Board your coach, for a short transfer to the eastern areas of the walled city.
Leave the coach and cross the short bridge leading across the moat surrounding the medieval town-wall, but that has never been filled with water. Enter the UNESCO World Heritage city through the Dalmans Gate and walk through the cozy alleyways to the great view point right above the Cathedral.
Sankta Maria Cathedral
A magnificent view across the sea, over old houses and rooftops and not the least over the Sankta Maria Cathedral, built by German merchants at the end of the 11th century and still in use. Here you will probably take your most impressive photos before continuing your walk downhill through winding, narrow lanes, passing church ruins and stately houses.
Big Square, Botanical Gardens
During the middle ages Visby was an important seat of the emerging Hansa. "The Hanse federation" was a trade monopoly federation of mainly German cities, that from the mid-11th to the mid-16 th century formed a joint-trade in the North of Europe and the Baltic Sea. Many German merchants were settled in Visby during this time. Passing the "Big Square" and the main street and hear about the great history of Visby as a trade city before walking through the Fisherman's gate to the calm and relaxing Botanical Garden famous for the many various kinds of roses and rare and exotic trees and plants that can exist thanks to the mild climate of Gotland.
Almedalen Medieval Harbour
End your walk at Almedalen, the former medieval harbor, today the site of the famous Political Week that takes place here a week in July every year gathering the whole elite of Swedish politicians.
Before rejoining your coach to get back to the ship enjoy the view from below of the medieval town-walls, houses and ruins that stretches skyways.
