Excursion Tierra del fuego national park highlights tour at Ushuaia
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience the stunning natural beauty and wildlife of Tierra del Fuego National Park during this leisurely, half-day excursion, giving you the opportunity to view rivers, vegetation and peat bogs from the comfort of your motorcoach, as well as during a soft trek and visit of the Alakush Visitors Centre, located at the End of the Word.
Scenic Drive through the Tierra del Fuego National Park
Depart the pier for an approximately 1 hour drive west of Ushuaia along the River Pipo valley to arrive at Tierra del Fuego National Park. This 150,000-acre park extends from the Beagle Channel to the south along the Chilean border to beyond Lago Fagnano in the north. Parts of the forest in this park were damaged by fires long ago and are today almost ghost-like, with stark pale gray trunks standing in contrast against the backdrop of lush green vegetation.
Acigami Lake, Alakush Visitors Centre, Refreshments
Stop at the Acigami Lake to enjoy beautiful photographic opportunities over the glacier lake marking the border between Argentina and Chile. From the bus parking area, begin the short soft trek (approximately 500 metres long) to the Alakush Visitors Centre. There visit the Ethnic Exhibition, introducing you to the aboriginal cultures of Tierra del Fuego, such as the Shelk'nam and the yaganes, through photographs, videos, models and explanatory panels.
Surrounded by a unique natural landscape, enjoy a hot chocolate with a traditional Argentinean alfajor, a delicious cake made of caramel.
Lapataia Bay, Zaratiegui Cove
Following your stop at the Alakush Visitors Centre, depart for a short drive along the end of the Panamerican Highway to Lapataia Bay on the Beagle Channel, the perfect spot to observe wildlife, such as Chilean dolphins, sea otters, blackish cinclodes and Pacific steamer ducks.
Your final photo stop is Zaratiegui cove.
Your tour concludes with an approximately 30 minutes return drive to the pier along the Beagle Channel
