Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover two of Miyajima's most celebrated landmarks, combining panoramic views and spiritual heritage on one of Japan's most scenic islands.
Begin with a ride aboard the Miyajima Ropeway, ascending the forested slopes of Mount Misen. As the gondola climbs above the island, enjoy sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea and the surrounding archipelago. At Shishiiwa Station, take in the scenery from the observatory, where expansive vistas reveal the beauty of the nearby islands and waterways.
Descending by ropeway, continue to the island's most iconic site, Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its distinctive architecture and famous floating torii gate. Explore the shrine complex and learn about its history, religious significance, and centuries-old connection to the sea.
Before returning to the pier, enjoy time to explore Omotesando Street, Miyajima's lively main avenue lined with local shops, traditional specialties, and artisan goods. Along the way, keep watch for the island's free-roaming deer, which have long become part of Miyajima's distinctive character.
