After tendering ashore and a brief short walk to the parking lot, your S.A.L.T. Program experience begins with a scenic, approximately 40-minute drive south to Jelsa Village. Your arrival at the Dubokovic Winery is greeted by owner Ivo Dubokovic.

Ivo Dubokovic

Born above the cellar is grandfather built in 1939, Ivo Dubokovic built upon the winemaking traditions established by his father, and grandfather before him. Today, he has emerged as one of the most diverse winemakers in Croatia. Although Ivo pioneered white macerated (orange) winemaking on the island, he is most famous for his proprietary red wine labels, Medvid and Medviedica. His first label, Medvid, was named after a species of seal that used to reside in an underwater cave beneath the location of the vineyard. It has emerged as one of the cult red wines from the Croatian Plavac Mali grape variety.

Wine Tasting

Ivo escorts you to his atmospheric, 80-year-old wine cellar, which was built beneath a Hvar stone family house, and your visit cellar is an experience itself. Ivo conducts a wine tasting that consists of between four-six different, award-winning wines, and is accompanied by a selection of cheeses and olive oil. Following your visit, re-board your coach and drive to the remote village of Velo Grablje.

Velo Grablje Village, Alavia Restaurant, Dalmatian Lunch

The remote village of Velo Grablje founded in the 14th century is proud of its stone houses and courtyards that still capture your attention with its fascinating architecture and make you feel the breath of pass times. Today the village is nearly abandoned having but a few permanent villagers, although it was rich and prosperous place, famous for its good wine and olive oil production. At this scenic village, you'll find the Alavia restaurant. Discover the soul of Hvar through the flavors of Alavia Soul Food, where every bite whispers tales of tradition and love. This S.A.L.T. Program tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately one mile (about 1.6 kilometres), at times over uneven, natural and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and stairs at the sites visited. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, a sweater or light jacket, bottled water, and Euros or credit cards for purchases from the ship.
