Excursion Priolo discovery: sao miguel’s endemic wildlife & forest restoration tour at Ponta Delgada

Start your journey at the Priolo Environmental Center, where interactive displays showcase the fragile connection between the flora and fauna of the Azores, along with the conservation efforts that have aided the resurgence of this endemic bird over the last twenty years.

Proceed by vehicle into the picturesque Serra da Tronqueira, the core of the Priolo’s habitat. With a guide, discover ongoing conservation projects while having the chance to observe this rare species in its natural environment. A guided stroll through the Laurissilva forest unveils the diversity of Azorean endemic plant species and underscores the significance of habitat restoration. The experience is further enriched by a visit to native plant nurseries in Santo António, where local species are nurtured for ecological recovery, providing a glimpse into the hands-on efforts involved in forest restoration. A lunch break is included during the tour.
