Excursion Pre-incan oracles tour at Lima

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Depart the pier for the approximate 50 minutes' drive to the Pucllana Historical Park where you will have an opportunity to explore the remains of an ancient civilization that existed between the 5th and 8th centuries B.C.

Huaca Pucllana

Upon arrival, begin a guided tour of the archaeological site, and learn interesting facts and information about life in ancient times along the way. Your first stop is the pre-Incan pyramid of adobe bricks, one of Peru's most important administrative and ceremonial centres for Chancay, Chillón, Rimac, and Lurín Valley settlers between 200 AD and 700 AD. This site is also thought to be the residence of high priests, and there is evidence of religious ceremonies, rites and sacrifices in honour of their deities.

At the park's on-site museum you can view centuries-old artefacts unearthed during the excavations. The museum also features areas of research, conservation and restoration, as well as cultural promotion.

Huaca Mateo Salado

Next, drive approximately 40 minutes to Huaca Mateo Salado in the district of Pueblo Libre. This is one of the most important ¨huacas¨ in Lima due to its connection with the Qhapaq Ñan, the Great Inca Trail that united the entire empire. Initially Mateo Salado was a Yschma civilisation administrative-ceremonial centre and then was occupied by the Incas.

Visit the archaeological site and walk through the pre-Incan pyramids while listening to the fascinating stories told my your guide.

Following your visit, you will re-join the coach for the approximately 40 minute return drive to the pier.
