Excursion Medieval borgo of dozza & wine tasting tour at Ravenna

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Indulge your senses with the splendid history, art and flavours of the Emilia Romagna region during this half-day sightseeing tour of Dozza. Art becomes urban landscape here through the decoration of houses' walls, streets and squares. It's a real open-air museum, where you can admire more than one hundred works by several contemporary prestigious artists.

Dozza Village Walking Tour

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive to Dozza, a medieval village located on a hilltop setting along the watershed of the Sellustra Torrent. Upon arrival, begin your guided walking tour of the city. Paintings by Italian and foreign artists who come here every two years to take part in Dozza's International Mural Competition can be seen.

Rocca Sforzesca Castle

Your first stop is at the regal, 13th-century Rocca Sforzesca Castle, a superb example of fortified medieval and Renaissance architecture. See ruins of the doorway with its pointed arch, tower with dungeons, ground floor and breathtaking terrace overlooking the town, surrounding hills, and Apennine Mountains, sloping gently down into the fertile fields of Emilia Romagna. Following your tour, explore the castle grounds at your leisure.

Wine Cellar Tour and Tasting

Your tour concludes with a visit to a local wine cellar for a guided tour, and a tasting of red and white wines accompanied by local delicacies. Afterward, some free time is made available to stroll the ancient alleys of the medieval borgo before re-boarding your coach and commencing the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
