Enjoy a stroll through the Pollen Pier bustling harbour and get a feel for the unique maritime coastal city of Arendal on foot.

City Glass Elevator, Venice of the North

Walk past cafes and restaurants towards the market place and prepare for a swift ride in the City Glass Elevator. High above the city, enjoy a birdseye view of Arendal while your guide tells you the story of the 7 different islands belonging to Arendal, a so called "mini Venice" of the North.

Old Town

Back down at street level you pass the City Cathedral towards the quirky streets of "Old Town". Here you find townhouses steeped in history and the homes of wealthy merchants that once made Arendal the richest maritime city of southern Norway. While some of these homes are now restaurants and cafes, the 3 story Kløckers' House is a museum filled with period furniture and artifacts. Your Arendal street stroll continues down the pier in front of the Hotel Tyholmen to the old City Hall, once a private residence and another reminder of the Age of Sail and the timber and iron trade that happened here.

Waterfront

On your return, walk by the city outdoor swimmingpool, unique homes and wooden sailboat harbour. Charming houses seem to hug the very waterfront you are on and it is a perfect opportunity to experience the coastal way of life in Arendal. In view of your ship, you may visit the many local shops or restaurants only footsteps from the Arendal pier, or stroll back accompanied with your local guide.
