Excursion Local flavours of fuerteventura tour at Puerto Del Rosario
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
What we know today as Puerto del Rosario, once was known as "Puerto Cabras". During the 18th century, the importance of grazing in this little village was greater than the port itself. The Majorera goat is one of the three native goat breeds of the Canary Islands and although it's native to Fuerteventura, it can be found throughout the Canary archipelago. The origins of Majorero cheese in Fuerteventura date back to the pre- Hispanic period and apparently, this cheese had a special place in the diet of the Guanches, the aboriginal inhabitants of the island. Majorero word comes from Maxorata, an aboriginal word that gave its name to the northern part of the territory belonging to the old island of Fuerteventura, prior to the conquest.
