Excursion Kalinago experience + hike in the rainforest tour at Roseau

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Today's adventure features the original inhabitants of Dominica, the Kalinago Tribe and a hike on the 115-mile long Waitukubuli National Trail.

From the wharf your tour bus climbs into the islands jungle for a 1 hour 15 minute drive, heading past lush green forest, small communities, farm lands and rivers (Dominica has 365 of these!). En route, drive through Pont Casse the geographic center of the island and the Central Forest Reserve, mystically cool and draped with cloud cover. Notice the climate change once you cross from the interior over to the Atlantic East coast and descend into the Kalinago Territory.

Led by a Kalinago tribe member you will hike for 3 hours along the old colonial road, past homesteads with a shrine sacred to the community and the local Catholic Church. After a few hours of hiking through this magnificent jungle, stop at the Kalinago Barana for a locally prepared lunch and Kalinago cultural presentation.

Once you are done with lunch, continue along the scenic coast through agricultural fields and built up neighborhoods before emerging at Bataca, where we end our hike. Board your bus for the 1 hour 15 minute return to the ship.
