Itajai
After departing the port, enjoy an approximately 20 minute panoramic drive of Itajai which lies at the mouth of the Itajai River.
The city was founded on June 15, 1860, but the colonization of Itajai had started in 1658 when the Paulista Joao Dias D'Arzao arrived in the region. In 1750, Portuguese colonists coming from Madeira and the Azores made this region their home. By 1823 it became a prominent region for Portuguese Settlers and at the end of the 19th century, received a great number of German immigrants.
Itajai located on the North coast of Santa Catalina State is headquarters of the largest fishing port in the country and the largest university of the state. The city is basically flat due to being at sea level.
Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament
Visit the Cathedral at Itajai. Built in 1940 by Father Joseph Locks and designed by German architect Simon Gramlich. The Mother Church of the Blessed Sacrament was only opened 15 years after his execution and is currently the biggest artistic and cultural monument of the city.
The building contains romantic elements and paintings of Italian artists Emilio Cease and Aldo Locatelli, along with six towers, with 55 stained glass Biblical motifs, a panel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in the roof and a statue of Moses descending from Mount Sinai.
Cabeçudas Beach and Camboriu City
Continue on to Cabeçudas Beach before reaching Camboriu City. The city has a statue similar to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro called Cristo Luz, with small differences. It is smaller than the one in Rio de Janeiro and it portrays Jesus with a "broad rimmed hat" Stop for a panoramic view of the city, the bay, the river and the Atlantic rainforest before returning to the ship on an approximately 40 minute drive.
