Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Örnsköldsvik is situated on "The High Coast," listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It has the

Baltic Sea's steepest coastline and is the only part of Sweden with coastal cliffs. The best way to appreciate fully the unique beauty and remarkable geology of this region is from a smaller boat, which can take you to places inaccessible to road vehicles or cruise ships.

This unforgettable tour begins with a short but scenic coach journey from the port to the small village of Docksta, where you board your tour boat and set off towards the island of Ulvön, known as the Pearl of Bothina. Your journey takes you past the islet of Mjältön, rising 774 feet above sea level - the highest island in Sweden.

Ulvön island is a nature reserve and a fantastic example of the steep rocky terrain that characterizes this region. Its unique red cliffs attract sailors from all over Sweden. Once you arrive on Ulvön island, you can get an idea of the idyllic seaside lifestyle enjoyed by this community. At one time the site of a large fishing fleet, the island today has only about 50 inhabitants.

Your guide takes you on a walk about the island, and you also have free time to explore on your own. During your return crossing to Docksta, coffee or tea and a sandwich will be served on board, while you enjoy the magnificent scenery of the archipelago. Among the islands you pass is Högbonden, which has one of the highest lighthouses in Sweden.

Back in Docksta, re-join your coach and return to Örnsköldsvik, and the pier.
