These powerful 4x4s are operated by skilled drivers who possess extensive knowledge of the country’s fragile sub-Arctic ecosystem, granting access to remote and dramatic terrains shaped by volcanic activity, ice, and the passage of time.
Shortly after leaving Reykjavík, ascend Mount Úlfarsfell to take in sweeping panoramic views of the city and its surrounding countryside. As you continue along the Pipeline road, head towards the Hengill volcanic and geothermal region, where the forces of nature are vividly showcased. Along the route, enjoy stunning vistas of Lake Þingvallavatn, the active Hengill volcano, and the Nesjavellir geothermal power plant, a vital source of hot water for Reykjavik.
As you travel along gravel roads beside the lake, the scenery gradually shifts to fertile farmland before arriving at Þrastarlundur, where a brief refreshment stop is made. The adventure then proceeds off the beaten path along the trail known as “Thousand Waters,” where your convoy navigates an exhilarating route through rivers, streams, and rugged landscapes before returning to the city and international airport.
