The Parc of Nacqueville castle is "... one of the prettiest places in the world", as stated by the famous 19th century French political philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville. Laid out in 1830 by an English landscape gardener, the garden appears as a delightful park. A stream with a series of waterfalls runs down to the lake in which the Chateau is reflected. Many varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas, as well as ornamental trees, clumps of giant gunnera and palm trees are spread over the lawns. After a brief introduction to the gardens, you will be free to stroll its romantic pathways and to enjoy the view of the English Channel. After a short drive, reach vauville. Hidden along a sandy bay framed by the Cape of Flamanville and the mighty Nez de Jobourg, the Botanic Garden of the Château of Vauville is one of the Cotentin’s finest gardens, reflecting the passion of a single couple : Guillaume Pellerin and his wife Cléophée de Turkheim. Created in 1947 and classified as an "Exceptional Garden" in 2004 the garden of Vauville comprises almost exclusively evergreen plants of a subtropical nature, about 900 species of the southern hemisphere. In perpetual evolution, this garden results from much work, science and passion: Pellerin has moderated the effect of the winds by planting windbreaks of diverse eucalyptus and bamboo. Each windbreak planting creates a garden "room" of different character, adding to the sense of suspense and discovery as you wander. The garden abounds in escallonias, trachycarpus, cordylines, Lambert cypress creating a serie of verdant hollows whose surprising atmosphere is a constant delight. Enjoy a guided visit of the garden.
After your visit, drive back to Cherbourg.
