Excursion Favelas experience & 'il sorriso dei miei bimbi' project tour at Rio de Janeiro
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Stretched above the richest neighborhoods of the city of Rio with over 150.000 residents lies the largest favela of Brazil. This contrast and all its peculiarities is impressive. You will enter the community and see a side of Rio beyond the postcards. Our knowledgeable tour guides, will tell you about the history of Brazil, of Rio de Janeiro, of industrialization and expansion, and how the favelas of Rio have always played an important role in the fabric of the city.
Here you'll see people with limited means, but unlimited smiles. You'll interact with local artisans selling their goods. And you're jaw will drop with those amazing views of the coastline! A local capoeira show is also part of the tour, stops for photos at each corner, a visit to the Lage (look out spot of the favela), and much more. Part of your tour will be by foot and having a personal experience with the community.
Visit of a social project called IL SORRISO DEI MIEI BIMBI is included during our visit at Rocinha.
This non-profit organization was officially founded in 2002, born from an idea of Barbara Olivi, an Italian living in Brazil, who since 1998 had been developing educational programs for children.
Il Sorriso dei miei Bimbi is a non-religious, independent, non-profit organization; it promotes ideas and partnerships and its projects have been successfully carried out over the years thanks to numerous private donations.
Upon leaving Rocinha, your 360 view continues as the jeep passes the beach where all the hang gliders land! You take the coastline drive back to your drop off point, once again seeing how absolutely gorgeous Rio is.
Without a doubt, you'll end this tour with a new perspective on your own life, a camera full of memories to share, and a heart that much fuller.
