Derry City and St. Columb's Cathedral

Depart the pier for the short drive along the banks of Lough Foyle en route to the walled city of Derry. Since the walls of this city were never breached, she is known as the 'Maiden City'. Upon arrival, take a sightseeing drive through the centre of this small, developing city. Along the way, an exterior photo stop is made at St. Columb's Cathedral. Constructed in the early-17th century, this Gothic Cathedral has a fine spire and total of 13 bells.

City Walls

Next, leave the coach and take a guided walking tour around the remarkable, rustic City Walls. Along the way, learn about the history and heritage of this vibrant city. From the top of the walls, you can see the 'Bogside', a Catholic area with a famous mural announcing, 'You are now entering free Derry'. You can also admire the layout of the original town, which still preserves its Renaissance-style streets.

Union Hall Place, Tower Museum and Free Time

Your tour continues on to Union Hall Place. Upon arrival, visit the award-winning Tower Museum. 'The Story of Derry' tells the colourful and dramatic history of the city, from earliest prehistory to the present. The museum also includes an audio-visual exhibition depicting the history of the Civil Rights march through Derry in 1972, which later became known as 'Bloody Sunday'. The top of the Tower Museum offers the only open-air viewing facility in the heart of the city centre, with stunning panoramic views of the inner-city and Lough Foyle. Leaving the museum, some free time is made available for independent exploration before re-boarding your coach and commencing the short drive back to the pier.
