Visit the old market that was originally a tidal creek that powered a mill until 1800, see the oldest Baptist meeting house dating back to 1646 where Thomas Newcomen, inventor of the first successful steam engine, was a Baptist preacher and see Bayard Cove where the Mayflower anchored during her stay in Dartmouth. Stroll along Butterwalk and see merchant houses dating back to 1628 - these houses backed on to the river and ships came up to their back door.
