Excursion Central panoramic tour at Lerwick
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Our panoramic excursion starts in the fishing port of Lerwick, founded in the 17th century. The centre is full of character, especially by the water’s edge where the older buildings are situated. As we drive through the town, we will see the Town Hall before turning west to the old town of Scalloway, the original main town and second largest settlement on the island.
Overlooking the Atlantic coast, above Scalloway, enjoy the wonderful photo stop where Scalloway Castle dominates the harbour below. Our tour continues as we journey toward the picturesque harbour village of Hamnavoe on the the isle of Burra. Whilst in Hamnavoe take the opportunity to capture the wonderful seascapes and views with a photo stop.
Leaving Hamnavoe we continue our journey heading North travelling to the Tingwall Valley with its Norse heritage to visit a herd of Shetland Ponies. Learn about the history and characteristics of this small and hardy pony directly from a local breeder.
On your short return journey to your ship, hear more of Shetland's culture and heritage from your qualified local guide
