Excursion Basse terre cocoa experience tour at Basse Terre
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Your très délicieux Cocoa Journey begins with a scenic 45-minute coach drive around Basse-Terre’s Atlantic coastline to the town of Goyave, where you’ll meet Michael, owner of the artisanal Natibwa products company. There you’ll walk among the fruit trees in the orchard and garden, learning intriguing secrets about their flavorful and medicinal virtues.
In a hands-on demonstration, discover how hard cocoa pods are opened and have the opportunity to taste the gum within, packed with the beans (nibs) that eventually become finished cocoa. The processing steps are many, but you’ll jump right to the good part as you prepare and enjoy a delicious traditional hot chocolate made from pure, natural cocoa. Combined with local biscuits, it’s a sensory pleasure few can resist.
After this 75-minute experience, you’ll reboard the coach and drive onward to Capesterre for a photo capture at magnificently green Dumanoir Avenue, lined with towering paired palms to create a tropical boulevard as majestic as they come. The drive back to port provides another 45 minutes of refreshing Antillean scenery.
