Excursion Aegean coastal cruise by gulet tour at Bodrum

Enjoy the sea breeze and scenic coastal beauty of Turkey during this half-day cruise aboard an authentic 'Gulet'.

Turkish Coast

Living in Bodrum between the two World Wars, Turkish writer Cevat Sakir Kabaagac wrote an account of his idyllic sailing excursions along the Turkish coast, an area completely untouched by tourism at the time. Kabaagac entitled his book Mavi Yolculuk (Blue Voyage), and any cruise along this coast now shares that name.

Wooden Gulet

From the Bodrum pier, a short shuttle ride transfers you to the marina where you board the traditional Turkish 'Gullet.' The locally crafted gulet's are built of pinewood and feature pointed bows and rounded sterns.

Karrada

Admire Karaada, or Black Island, which is the large hump-backed island you will leaving Bodrum. In calm weather you will see bubbles rising up into a sea-cave in the rocks, where a hot spring said to have therapeutic qualities and fine grey mud is reputed to have been used by beauty guru Elizabeth Arden for some very expensive facial mudpacks.

Swimming

During the tour there is also an opportunity for a swimming break in the Poyraz Limani, a small green bay located around Karaada. On the way back you will sail through a series of mysterious coves, inlets and small islands pitching out into the clear turquoise water of the Aegean.

Refreshments

Soft drinks, tea and coffee will be served along with light snacks during your scenic coastal cruise on the gullet.

Note

Please note: This tour involves minimal walking and is recommended for those with limited mobility, although guests must be able to negotiate the steps to embark and disembark the gulet. The Gulet is not wheelchair accessible. Participation is very limited. Guests wishing to swim must be in good physical condition and able to swim in water too deep to stand. Agility is required to re-board the gullet after swimming. Please wear a swimsuit under a cover-up and bring a towel from the ship if you wish to swim. Guests must be at least 18 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. Guests must not drink alcoholic beverages before swimming.
