Excursion Colonial betancuria, island views & cheese museum tour at Puerto Del Rosario

Betancuria

Betancuria is one of the most important colonial landmarks in the history of the Canary Islands. Founded in 1404 by the Norman Knight Jean de Bethencourt, Betancuria was the former capital of the island. By population it is the smallest municipality of Fuerteventura as well as all of the Canary Islands. The population is estimated to be approximately 800 residents.

You will have the opportunity to stroll around it's picturesque narrow streets full of flowers with a little free time to enjoy at leisure.

Viewpoints

During the day, you will stop or pass by at 2 of the most iconic viewpoints of the islands; "Las Peñitas" viewpoint, and Guise & Ayose viewpoint where you will find two impressive bronze statues representing the Kings of ancient Fuertevenertura, Ayose and Guise. From these locations, you will admire breathtaking views of the island while your guide will explain more fully about the geology of Fuerteventura.

Museo del Queso (Cheese Museum)

During a brief stop at Museo del Queso (cheese museum) you will have the opportunity to learn about the origin of Majorero cheese and enjoy a tasting of their local cheeses. You will learn about the history and production of this precious treasure from Fuerteventura. The gardens are equally lovely and the shop sells craftwork and produce from the islands farming and agriculture sector. It has more than 500 square metres of exhibition space with panels providing detailed information in several languages. Here you will discover the history of Fuerteventura goat and its natural habitat. It's estimated that nowadays, the number of goats in Fuerteventura are considerably more than the population itself. Majorera goats are known for their excellent milk.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking and standing approx. 1.6 miles (about 2,6km total) at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps (approx 15) to negotiate. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight comfortable clothing, jacket and flat, closed-toe walking shoes are recommended. Guests must be at least 21 years old to consume alcoholic beverages. We suggest to bring cash euros as credit cards may not be accepted. The tour sequence may vary.
