Excursion Bozcaada highlights tour at Bozcaada

Polente Lighthouse

The tour will start with a scenic drive to Polente for a photo stop at the Lighthouse. Built in 1856, the lighthouse was commissioned by the Ottoman <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Empire> Sultan Abdülmecid I <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abd%C3%BClmecid_I> (reigned 1839-1861) in order to provide safe navigation around the shallow waters before the Yeşilköy Point for ships plying the northwestern coast of the Sea of Marmara towards Istanbul. Today it has been converted as a seafood restaurant.

Ayazma Beach, Agia Paraskevi Chepel, Aquarium Beach

Continue your scenic drive to Ayazma Beach. Ayazma Beach is a perfect resort for those looking for quiet coves, old Greek houses, and a calm and peaceful environment surrounded by historical ruins. Enjoy some free time to stroll along the beach and view the Agia Paraskevi Chapel. Afterwards continue your drive to Aquarium Beach, for an additional memorable photo opportunity.

Refreshment

Back in town, stop for a cooling drink of local wine or beer at a traditional café, before visiting the Bozcaada Castle.

Bozcaada Castle

Built over the ruins of several former castles, the Bozcaada Castle dominates the northeastern end of the island. The current structure was built during the reign of Mahmut II. Once inside, you can climb up the walls for excellent views of the marina and town center.

Turkish and Greek Districts

Bozcaada's Greek and Turkish traditions have greatly influenced the island's culture. Though the island's longtime Greek residents have moved away, Bozcaada's Greek district still retains its original street plan and traditional Greek homes. The Turkish district has a completely different look and feel with beautiful mosques, narrow streets, fountains, and hammams.

At the end of the tour, enjoy some free time to discover the town or return to the ship.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over cobblestoned streets. Comfortable walking shoes and conservative attire are recommended. Please bear in mind that the island is small; guides and transportation have to come from the mainland and therefore are available only in limited supply. Sights can become very busy in the summer as it is a popular seaside resort for local tourists. Order of sights may vary.
